Lisa's notes: We stock this boot as it is a great price; smart looking with all the features of an adult boot and ideal for those children wanting to transition in to long leather boot. We have attached a size chart for guidance and give advice on how to measure for the correct size below. It is important to realise that with long leather boots that they will “give” at the ankles over time as the leather supple up meaning that in order to get the correct length that your child may find the top of the boot behind the knee may feel it is cutting in when they flex their knee at the beginning. This is perfectly normal and we recommend putting a heel riser in each boot (this can be purchased from us or other stores) until the boot has dropped to its natural height.
Long riding boots will generally “drop” a little over time so please bear that in mind when first fitting them.
Firstly, ask your child to stand with feet flat on the floor with their leg slightly bent as if they were sitting in a saddle.
The calf measurement is taken by measuring around the widest part of the lower leg.
The height is taken by measuring from the floor up to the side of the knee.
We advise that when your child first tries them on, ask them to bend their leg as if they are sitting in a saddle. If when they try the boot on it feels like it cuts in to the back of the knee a little then we advise putting a heel raiser in the boot. This helps to lift the rider’s foot up at the rear until the leather has dropped and softened a little and thus the actual boot sits slightly lower. You can then remove them. This gives the optimum fit and look long term.
