Lisa’s notes: This lovely jacket combines the functional features you require in a decent winter coat with the style of a fashion coat to create a beautiful riding jacket that if cared for correctly should last for years.

It is water and wind proof (for those who like all the technical blurb then we have included a guide to what all the features mean below) and most importantly; has a critical taped seam which helps stop water or wind from sneaking in.

The hood can be zipped off if you wanted to change the look and internally, there is a clever lining system where you can remove the various linings from behind a zipped compartment so you can alter the warmth factor depending on the day! It’s a very simple process but does mean that the coat has enormous versatility in its use. Generally, you tend to find that most down style jackets are not waterproof and the jackets that are waterproof are not always that warm!

It’s a definite solution for those riders who want an all-round coat that will work regardless of the weather and are reluctant to shell out for two separate coats to do the same job! In addition, the draw cord at the waist means you can alter the fit to suit and the rear zipped vent allows you plenty of scope for movement in the saddle.

With regards fit these generally come up a standard size and I have included a guide so you can compare to a UK dress size. I am a UK 12 but have a 36F chest so depending on the tailoring I can end up in a UK 12 or 14 to accommodate my bust. I found in this that the Medium did fit me around the waist but it did come up tight across my back and under my arms and as I like to wear lots of layers then I would buy the Large. If you do not have a particularly large bust or are not broad across the back then I would say that you will be fine going with your standard size but if you require further help please do contact us!

Waterproof
According to the European standard EN343, for materials and products to be considered waterproof they need to meet specific criteria. This includes the amount of water pressure (psi) they can withstand before leaking or an “mm/24 hours” rating which equals the amount of rainfall a fabric can withstand in a single day before water starts to leak through. Equally important are the abrasion resistance quality of the membrane, the coating and waterproof quality of the seams and zips – these should be laminated or welded.

Windproof
The slightly water-repellent wind protection is achieved primarily through a membrane. The windproof soft shell material provides perfect protection against the dangerous wind chill effect, due to the convective dissipation of body heat, which as a result produces a higher rate of evaporation.

Breathable
Breathability refers to the ability of a man-made fibre or natural fibre to release the body's own water vapour. Breathable fabrics allow for quick drying already during use and thus prevent heat build-up from the body under the fabric as well as cooling due to dammed up moisture.
